Complete, accurate documentation is the single most important thing you can provide your CM. Missing or ambiguous documents are the #1 cause of NPI delays and production yield issues.
| Document | Purpose / Notes |
|---|---|
| Bill of Materials (BOM) | Full component listing with MPN, manufacturer, ref des, qty — see Section 6 |
| Gerber Files + Drill Files | Fabrication data — see Section 5 |
| Assembly Drawing | Board outline, component placement, special instructions, revision block |
| Schematic (PDF) | Not used for production but critical for DFM review and rework guidance |
| Fab Drawing / PCB Specs | Layer stackup, impedance, surface finish, finish thickness, via specs |
| Test Specification | ICT net list, functional test procedure, test limits, pass/fail criteria |
| Revision History | What changed, when, and why — for any document revision |
| IPC Class Requirement | IPC Class 1, 2, or 3 — sets inspection and workmanship standards |
RULE: All documents must carry a revision identifier (e.g., Rev A, Rev 1.2). Releasing to production without a revision level is not acceptable.
