The most common BOM errors that block a clean build are generic descriptions without an MPN, truncated or conflicting part numbers, multiple parts crammed into one row, and missing DNP or firmware-revision callouts.
- Generic descriptions without MPN — e.g., ’10K resistor’ is not buildable
- Truncated MPNs — missing suffix characters change the part entirely
- Multiple parts in one row — split into separate line items
- Conflicting MPNs between BOM and assembly drawing — BOM governs; note the discrepancy
- Programmed devices listed without firmware revision — specify firmware version and source
- Missing DNP callouts — components listed on BOM assumed to be populated
