At Amtech, continuous improvement isn’t just a principle — it’s part of our operating system. This October, we implemented key upgrades across our production environment that directly enhance speed, accuracy, and flexibility on the factory floor.
1. Upgraded SMT Line Software
We’ve rolled out new software across our SMT lines that allows us to track, integrate, and validate production and setup tasks offline. By syncing setup data with our MES and ERP systems, we can now ensure seamless process validation before the first board hits the line — reducing setup errors and improving first-pass yield.
2. Optimized Process Flow
We also redesigned our SMT layout for optimal process flow, creating a more streamlined path from stencil to reflow. The result: a 2× increase in throughput without additional equipment. This optimization reinforces our focus on lean operations — maximizing output while minimizing motion, waiting, and rework.
3. Pit Stop Changeover
Finally, we’ve launched our Pit Stop Changeover initiative — inspired by the precision of motorsports. This system standardizes work order transitions, allowing operators to prep the next build in parallel. The result is a dramatic reduction in line downtime and turn time, keeping our production momentum strong even in high-mix environments.
